Prayers for Discernment - July 28
I thought that this would be easy this week; find a scripture passage and write that I BELIEVE IN JESUS! Instead, I’ve looked at a blank page for 3 days and these are my first written words!
John 12:44, “Jesus cried out, “When a man believes in me, he does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me."
John:14:6, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except thru me.”
We continue with the Apostles’ Creed; We believe “in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontus Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead;...”
These may be the most important words of our lives. If these words are not true then our faith has no basis and is dead! Without belief in Jesus Christ, Christianity doesn’t exist, it is dead, a non religion. This is nonnegotiable. Jesus came to the world as a human, fully God and fully human. He came to teach the world how to live and to love. He taught us how to be holy as he is holy. He came that we might be saved from a life of sin and that thru belief in him we have hope of eternal life. Without him the world is lost. THIS WE BELIEVE!
Let us pray:
Heavenly Father, we thank you for your son, Jesus. We thank you for the church and especially for this our home church. Lord, we ask for wisdom and discernment as to your vision and desire for this church. We pray for this church to become all that Jesus wants it to be. It’s in the name of this same Jesus that we pray. AMEN.
